Contact-Induced Change in the Domain of Grammatical Gender in Pontic Greek Spoken in Georgia

This paper presents an empirical study on the cross-linguistic influence of contact languages (Turkish, Georgian and Russian) in domain grammatical gender Pontic Greek spoken by Pontic-speaking community Georgia. The is based corpus data collected during several periods fieldwork within questions addressed are: What innovations can be observed understudied variety domain, and, if any innovation observed, are they due to impact languages? I argue that contact-induced changes manifest themselves assignment loan nouns, contribute establishment default value. main findings reveal that, comparison with other varieties, this one hand more sensitive animacy hierarchy, other, shows increased use feminine as a result incorporation loans from gendered language, i.e., Russian.
